Hi i recently purchased a 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Spec-C with the prodrive kit.
Now im very concerned about something. When the car is turned off i get a F reading on the dipstick. Now i assume this means full so its perfectly fine yes ? Ok now the thing i am worried about when the car is running (turned on) i get no reading on the dipstick at all just a very slight mark at the bottom ??? When i turn it off and let it settle the reading is back at F. What is the meaning of this is there a problem or a fault or is this perfectly normal ? Any assistance with this question would be very welcome. Regard's Lee

Re: Hi and help :)
Wow, this must be your first time checking the oil?
When the car is cold, all the oil is in the oilpan so you get the 'F' reading - this is also the time when you want to check the oil. When the engine has been running the oil is distributed throughout the engine - you're not likely to get a good reading at this point at all. Whatever you do, DO NOT add more oil to the engine if it's reading full when the car is cold, adding more oil will increase stress to the engine. Right now, everything is fine.
