95 Voyager wipers turn on by themselves

my 95 voyager wiper turn on by themselves when the headlights are turned on or when the RT turn signal is on. I replaced multifunction switch and this did not fix the problem. I hear a clicking noise which I think is a relay, but i cannot find the relay. Somebody said BCM problem. Where is BCM for this vehicle? will used BCM work? Please help...

Yup. The BCM is the next likely culprit. Its on the back of the Junction Block, that's Chrysler lingo for the fuse/relay panel under the dash on the drivers side left of the steering column. A used one will work as long as you get the identicle part number and you don't have an anti theft system. You'll have to take it back to the dealer to get the mileage updated.

Re: 95 Voyager wipers turn on by themselves

I read on a post that in the 94-95 model, the BCM is behind the center console so Saturday I took the bottom center console out and found the BCM. It came out easily, only one 3/8 bolt holding it in place and took it to Pull a part and found the one I needed. I replaced the BCM and powered everything up and the problem went away. In the 95, the odometer is not an led display, so the mileage did not change. All in all a relatively easy fix once I figured out what was causing the problem.

Re: 95 Voyager wipers turn on by themselves

Ok, so the problem returned after 2 weeks. So I took out the wiper fuse and drove the van for a while. The rt front headlight was flickering and the rt turn signal was intermittent, but at least the wipers were not going on. After about 10 minutes of driving with the headlights on, the van started chiming. If you turned the headlights off for a moment and then back on the chiming would stop for another 10 minutes or so. One night with the headlights flickering and the van chiming, I hit a bump with the rt front tire and everything returned to normal for a few minutes. When I got home, I started looking at wires coming from the rt headlight and turn signal and found a se ground wire that attached to the frame under the hood and just above the rt headlight. I tightened this up and all my problems went away. I put the fuse back in and the wipers no longer come on by themselves. My van is running great!!! What a nightmare...

Re: 95 Voyager wipers turn on by themselves

Was there a "clockspring" recall on your car? The so-called clockspring sits under the steering wheel and carries almost all the electrical signals that go through the steering column. The signals that rotate with the steering wheel itself have to have connect even as the wheel turns. Those include the lights, cruise control, and wipers. When the clockspring goes bad, the signals get flaky leading to the situation you're describing.

Re: 95 Voyager wipers turn on by themselves

Dchall - Are the lights and wiper switches on the steering wheel on a 95? On a 96, the only circuits that go through the clockspring are the horn, cruise control, and SRS. Wipers are on the turn signal lever and the headlight switch is on the lower left dash.

davis141 - My bad on the BCM location. I wish all of them were on the center column as yours is. Getting at the back of the junction block is a real PIA. As for your problem take a close look at the BCM connector for pushed/bent/corroded contacts and clean with electrical contact cleaner.

EDIT - I just need to read Ref post #7 Thanks for coming back with the fix.

Re: 95 Voyager wipers turn on by themselves

All my problems went away when I tightened that ground screw above the rt front headlight. I have had no problems since...

I read his previous message too fast. I missed the part that explained how he fixed it. I had a 96 with a clockspring recall. The new part fixed my random wiper, cruise control, lights, horn, and turn signal issues. Sometimes when I flipped the turn signal on, the wipers would activate. They are not seemingly related, but the clockspring fixed it. It was as weird as this headlight/wiper issue, so I thought I'd suggest it.
