Repair manual

I have a 2002 Elantra, and I think, I must have the only one made that year, as there are no repair manuals available for it. All I need to do is change the timing belt. There are plenty of manuals, but they all stop at 2001 model year. Are they similar enough so that I can use the 2001 manual for my 2002?? Thanks.

Re: Repair manual

there are no manuals because of some rights issues, it's the same thing for all car, beyond a specific year there are no repair manuals.

If you want a timing belt DIY search the www.elantraxd.com forums.

Re: Repair manual

no, companies don't have the rights to distribute repair manuals about recent car models, you have to buy the manual at the dealer (usually around 150$).

But if you want details on your car you can also go there and register :

www.hmaservice.com

it's the Hyundai tech website and it's free to register, you have tons of informations on any Hyundai, including recalls and technical service bulletins.

Re: Repair manual

Thanks for the info. It sounds like something a domestic automaker would do, in order to get more money. Im just gonna get the manual for the 2001, should be close enough.

Re: Repair manual

no, if you have to test a sensor you'll have the wrong infos, if you need to find a sensor, you'll have wrong info again, they put 2001 on the manual but you have little to no informations on the 2001 Elantra, you have to know that from 2001 to 2007 they changed the engine to the Beta 2, 1996-2000 Elantra have the Beta 1 engine and they are not the same.

I know I have the 1996-2001 manual and have lots of friends that have a 2001 and up Elantra, I've help to fix and diagnose them also and the electrical system is quite different, refer yourself to the website I posted above, it's from Hyundai and the informations you find in the 150$ repair shop manual are available from that site (there are graphics and pictures also, it helps to find a sensor or a specific part).
