2001 Sunfire questions

My daughter is interested in a 2001 SE with 108,000 miles for about $3500. It appears to be in good condition with only two owners. Is there any known problems with the engine that I should be aware of? Any other things that I should be concerned with.

Thanks

The worste i can come up with is that sunfires in general are notorious for warping head gaskets. Check up and see what works been done to the car and double check for that problem

2001 is decent, the earlier 2.4l was the grievous demon that has been haunting me. i've found all quad fours to be disappointing. 80's on.

Re: 2001 Sunfire questions

I just did the head on my 01 last month... which really sucks since I totalled it this morning.... I had never done one, but I am somewhat mechanically proficient... The heads are aluminum and if overheated are known to warp. Other things include the headlight issues and I found that the lower radiator hose was a bad design from GM as well... An aftermarket hose has an additional bend in it that angles it away from the battery tray. GM's solution to the problem was a piece of the corrugated plastic that they placed on the hose. Problem with that was that the plastic was positioned so the tray went between the crack.. and on Christmas eve 06 I had a 1/4 in hole in the hose. The only other thing I know that is somewhat common is the EVAP code... P0440 in the OBDII system. I never fixed it, but it never affected the operation or mileage. I assume it was just a sensor. Hope this helps!!

The only way i know to reset it without an OBII is to take of the (-) battery connection off and leave it off for 30 seconds and it should reset the computer.
