97 Monte Engine Light

I have a 97 Monte Carlo LS with 100,000 miles on it and the check engine light is always on or flashing. I had the code read and it says there is a Misfire in cylinder 4. I then pulled spark plug 4 and found some oil mixed in there. I cleaned it out and replaced the spark plug and the problem has continued. I have heard there are a few things that could be wrong and am wondering if anyone has had this problem and can help me diagnose so i can fix this without spending a ton of money

Thanks
RS

Welcome to AF, if that cylinder is not firing and I assume you have a noticeable miss? ( Not mentioned), then suspect a possible plug wire or a faulty injector.

Re: 97 Monte Engine Light

the code reader says there is a misfire but it is not noticable, i think the wires are fine, I think the main problem is how the oil is getting into the spark plug? Ive heard its common but would like to find out if anyone has had this same problem, and how they fixed, im looking to get it fixed soon

Re: 97 Monte Engine Light

Oil can get on the plug as the cylinder experiences a misfire, but you say there is none, intake manifold gaskets can cause this, bad valve seals, internal engine problems, excess blowby, bad or wrong pcv.
