carb questions

I've got an 84 F150 with a 302. I'd like to get a fair amount of power out of a nice carb/intake setup. I was thinking of getting an Edelbrock Thunder series carb and the Performer intake manifold. Has anyone else used that combo? Would that still make good power with the stock cam?

Also, I was thinking about putting a 351W in that truck in a few months. Would the intake for the 302 fit the 351 ?

Re: carb questions

It might, but I think the runners are smaller, you are probably going to loose some mid or upper range horsepower.

Re: carb questions

The performer intake will work well with the stock cam, but it works great with the performer intake/cam combo. Ive never used the Edlebrock thunder carb, but these intakes perform well with a 600 holley. You will notice more of an improvement if you also add headers, with stock exhaust you wont notice alot of improvement. Any change you make to the intake side needs a corresponding change to the exhaust, that is, if you dump more fuel and air and build a bigger fire in the cylinders and the exhaust is still restricted you wont get much improvement. If you dont want to buy two manifolds, wait till you put the 351 in it to buy the parts. The exhaust manifolds/headers from the 302 will work on the 351, but the INTAKE MANIFOLD WILL NOT FIT!!!!! The 351 is about 3 inches wider than the 302, some parts will interchange, but the intake manifold WONT.

Re: carb questions

It's been my experience that a bigger carb with a competition intake manifold will only do one thing without a cam change. Use more gas. No more ponies.
