Number of McLarens in "circulation"

Just wondering what the correct number is for McLarens that are not "lost" to the motoring world ie. they are still running and actually get used by their owners. For instance, there are three that have been written off forever:
- Dawes car (or the one he was driving),
- the blue one crashed in Brunei, and salvaged for parts
- the one smashed up in Germany.

- XP1 Namibia crash
- XP2 DVLA crash testing

Then, there are the ones still in Brunei, seven more (pls. list chassis numbers). Plus, three in Japan in that museum (1 LM, 1 GT, 1 F1 - do I have this right? Chassis numbers?).

So, could we have a tally going in the following format?

XP: 3 (England 2, USA 1)
F1:
GTR:
LM: 2 (including XPLM) - (England 1, USA 1)
GTR 97:
GT: 2 (Japan 1, Brunei 1)

It would help define how truly exclusive each type really is (more so than the production numbers by themselves imply). If you could give an indication of how many of each type are in each country, that would be great, too.

Re: Number of McLarens in "circulation"

For the road-going F1's, a good starting point would be these 4 threads -

Recap of Japanese F1 fleet
Recap of European F1 Fleet (excluding England)
Recap of English F1 fleet
Recap of the American F1 fleet

The GTR index sounds like a good idea, to get all the GTR's, short and longtails, still in use be it in roadgoing guise or track use.

As for the GT's, I believe there is 1 in Brunei, 1 in the UK and 1 MIA

I'm not sure you want to include XP1LM in the XP list, the LM list or in the list at all, as it is displayed rather than used by it's owner.

It also may help to define the timeframe for 'getting used by their owners', as it can be regular like #020 and #06R for example or scarcely as in #021 and #19R (if #021 is the elusive F1 seen in Monaco)

Re: Number of McLarens in "circulation"

You raise some good points.

XP1LM is just GTR10R, isn't it? So, no point counting it twice...even though it is at McLaren HQ, I believe it would be sold if someone offered the right sum. So, I think it should be put into the GTRs as one of the "active" ones.

I think the Le Mans winning car is the only one that Ron Denis would never part with.

As for frequency of use, it doesn't matter. As long as they are not rotting away in a garage or museum, you can consider them "in use" even if it's stretching the term in some cases.

Nope - there were a total of 6 LMs when you count the prototype.

There were 28 GTRs - #01R through #28R and none were ever made into something else, unless you count the certifying of some of them for road use.
