Re: silver F1 for sale

Its chassis #065, the ex-Park Lane car; it's been for sale for a while now here. The Sheikh / Brunei connection is incorrect.

Re: silver F1 for sale

Hey Greg - I was getting ready to file these shots and am now having some serious doubts this is #065.

You'll recall in the thread on Deciphering VINs that jkbon shared this graphic:

Which he took from here with other identical photos:
http://www.turbo-car-trade.com/viewCars_1452.aspx

While the last digit of the VIN has been removed, when comparing the check digit that remains against the list of valid VIN numbers I worked out, this must be chassis #063 as that's the only car in the range from 60-69 that has a "3" in the position of the check digit. For the car to be #065 as you suggest, the check digit would need to be a "7".

Also, when I compare other shots from this set to images of #065, there are some details that are missing:

Gordon's signature is missing from the right chassis spar:

<-- #065 versus #063? -->

...and that special plaque on the left chassis spar of #065 that you thought might be related to it being the last one sold is also non-existant in this batch of photos:

<-- #065 versus #063? -->

Your thoughts? I've certainly had my own lapses of focus recently so I assume this could be another one, but the evidence seems to favor my opinion here. Was there something I am missing that has you convinced this was #065?

Re: silver F1 for sale

I discounted #063 after what you wrote here relating to the 4 front holes where the number plate would go. Having said that, to me the showroom doesn't look like Automobil Manufactur's - I have seen the showroom somewhere before (I am trying to find it as I type); as soon as I find the link all should hopefully be revealed

EDIT - another swerveball - #063 had 9595 KM / miles on it as per this pic here, could 1205 km have been added whilst in the showroom? (The description on the petrolhead.nl link from PatrickT82 states the car to have 10,800km. )

Chassis #065 was sold as the only 'new' F1, therefore would have hardly any miles on it at all. In this set of pics I have as #065 - coincidentally where the VIN pic came from - there seems to be the whole package (FACOM toolkit, presentation boxes, watch etc) which I would imagine be with #065 as again, it's the only 'new' F1 out there, so having all the 'goodies' with it seems a reasonable assumption. If it were #063 I'd imagine with all the owners and travelling that car has done I'd expect (though not hope) that some of the 'goodies' would be lost / kept by the original / previous owner(s) - The watch seems to be one of the favourite keepsakes from what I've heard.

Depending on the age of those photos it looks like it could be chassis #063 to me, as it has those same four holes in the front nose piece.

I response to these images:

Which looks identical to the nose on the car currently being discussed:

Looks kind of like the new SPS Showroom in Hong Kong, doesn't it?

The nose on the F1 in the weblink doesnt have the 4 holes, or am I missing something?

That's the showroom I was thinking of! Perhaps Automobil Manufactur and SPS Hong Kong did the same as Carrs of Exeter and AutoSalonSingen - as in trade cars between dealers?

I am sure, between us, we can narrow it down

Here's those same two photos I just shared via that web link - I can see the four holes rather clearly:

You can in those pics, but not on these specific nose shots in the weblink - http://www.petrolhead.nl/2007/09/te_koop_mclaren_f1.php - from PatrickT82 at the top of this thread -

which makes me think it's different from #063

Re: silver F1 for sale

Ahh - I wasn't rolling back to that link. Those may be shots of #064 which SPS had prior, mixed in with this set. I don't have access to those #064/SPS Hong Kong shots at the moment to compare, but that's my best guess...

EDIT: In fact, that's exactly what it is. Look at the shots of the F1 previously confirmed to be #064 on the SPS website:

http://www.sps-automotive.com/en_sps...clarenf1_e.htm

You will find that two of them are an exact match.

Re: silver F1 for sale

It's the old "File Photo" scenario.

Glad that's all cleared up and now we know where (with almost complete certainty) chassis #063 is hanging out these days.

In regards to your statement about the dealers swapping cars - does this mean you think the 1994 F1 recently advertised by Bingo Sports was #064? Obviously the year wouldn't be accurate in that case, but we've seen ads get more than that wrong.
