93 vr6 auto - trans in limp mode?

hi there

occasionally after my car has been sitting for 2 hours or more. the next time i start it and drive, it starts in limp mode. basically sticking in second gear at all times, but will shift at really high rpms.

if i drive for about 100m, then pop the car in nuetral and restart it, it fixes the problem and shifts normally for the rest of my trip.

ive checked the fuild levels, and even changed the fluid, but still the same issue.

any ideas of things i can try to correct this? other then that the trans shifts and runs very well. just kind of a pain to have to restart the car while driving everytime i go somewhere.
