Metro : 1.0 vs 1.3
I no longer have my Metro 1.0 - so I'm in the process of looking for another. Although ideally I'd like another 1.0, some of the models available to me are the 1.3.
There is alot of praise/info. around for the 1.0, but not so much on the 1.3. Any opinions and/or advice would certainly be appreciated. I'm most interested in reliability/durability, etc. Thanks,

Re: Metro : 1.0 vs 1.3
There are 2 types of 1.3, the SOHC and the DOHC. The SOHC puts out 70 hp and has a higher final drive ratio. The DOHC puts out 100 hp and has a lower final drive ratio. If you want to go race around and don't really care about gas mileage, the DOHC is the way to go. The SOHC gets nearly the same mileage as a 3 cylinder if you drive it easy but is smoother running, has more power, and is geared high for good highway cruising. Reliability and longevity are as good as the 1.0.
Try a 1.3, you'll like it. Q |

Re: Metro : 1.0 vs 1.3
I beg to differ, there is no Geo Metro pumping out 100hp no matter of year and engine, the most powerful engine is the 1.3l DOHC and pumps out a max of 79hp at 6000rpm, not that I don't wish my 2000 Chevy Metro to burn rubber with 100hp.
As for fun factor it can't be beat, what royally sucks is the 3 speed automatic transmision, I don't understand why they didn't left it alone with the 5 speed manual. |

Re: Metro : 1.0 vs 1.3
You're correct, my error. The Metro was never offered with the DOHC 100 hp engine. Only the Swift GT had the 100 hp engine. Some people take them from Swifts and put them in Metros.

Re: Metro : 1.0 vs 1.3
Three different major variations of the four cylinder are available. The G13A is a 70hp two valve with throttle body injection and a distributor available in 89-97 Swifts and 95-97 Metros. The G13B is a 100hp DOHC four valve with port injection and a distributor available in 89-94 Swifts. The G13BB is a 79hp SOHC four valve with port injection and coil-on-plug ignition available in 98-01 Metro/Swift. All were sold with either auto or manual transmission and are slightly more reliable than the three cylinder due to an easier life stress level, they don't have to work as hard. On the 95-01 cars, the difference in fuel mileage between the G10 and G13 is less as the G10 got crazy gears to cope with the added weight of the car. There are other minor variations, but they're either meaningless, or not available in the US. The A and B variations were also in the Mark 1 cars 88 and older.
