mystique 2000 problems

Hey guys, I'm here to ask another mystique problem. Missing is the problem. The check engine light keeps coming on, and I keep getting reports about cylinder 5 or 6 misfiring. I've replaced the spark plug wires and the plugs, but the same problem keeps coming up. After few hundred miles, it rears it's ugly head again. The problem arose when my wife let the car overheat, and the problem just won't go away. We let the car cool off and started om our trip to Denver...Boy, talking about bad performance!!! I know there's someone out there that perhaps has some valuable info on this...so please give me a shout.

You might want to do a compression and cylinder leak down test.

I can almost guarantee theres not a problem with the valvetrain/pistons/rings. In all my years, I dont think I ever seen a piston ring, valve, etc fail in a stock duratec motor. Besides, even if the compression were low/leak the valves, it wouldnt be misfiring.
