Steering wheel question

I am thinking of getting one of those woodgrain finish steering wheels like the one pictured here, just so i know in advance, what tools are needed to remove the steering wheel, ive never really messed around with the steering colum yet.

Re: Steering wheel question

You need a steering puller. I've used a harmonic balancer puller with good success as well.

Re: Steering wheel question

A lock plate depressor might come in handy, since you may have to remove it to move the horn sounder button and/or turn signal cam. Some of the aftermarket wheels (like some Grants) don't line up like a factory installation.

Re: Steering wheel question

wow, that is a cool wheel. I want one for my 95 9c1 with the LT1. So, Grant wheels are the best? Do they have any that come with the shifter knob?

See that little cast aluminum adapter? That may be what gets you into trouble with turn signal cancelling cam position. That may also be why you might need to dig deeper (under the lock plate) to modify the installation.

I'm only a little curious about what you intend to do with the inflatable restraint/horn sounder pad from the original steering wheel installation.
