TAKE A LOOK TO ALL THOSE WHO GAVE ME ADVICE. I'VE RENDERED THE CAR AGAIN TO SPECIFICATIONS. I ask that those who have already commented to please critique this again. Just to point out, this new sketch is a rough redesign drawn with better perspective and hopefully pleases the eye. I've removed the passenger seat to allow the details of the hatch to show through. Consider also that it was a dull pencil. ;-) *G*
![]() ![]() So, I haven't drawn anything for a while, but this was on my mind and I wanted to see what everyone thought. It's a concept on a Kappa frame, like the Solstice and the Sky. Well, this one is from Holden, and I have called it the Arvo, Australian for "afternoon," since that would be how it is marketed. OLD IMAGES REMOVED...left the next one for reference to the old sketch...for old sketches see: http://www.geocities.com/onemodelcitizen Last edited by model_citizen; 09-24-2007 at 10:44 PM. not bad, improve your perspective, and maybe work on the rims a lil more and your drawings will be astonishing!

Re: Just thought I'd run a concept drop top by you.
There's some good ideas and design details there but you need to practice drawing cars more. As mentioned, perspective is one thing but you also need to get used to how curves behave. Some of the surfaces don't make sense, as it were.

Re: Just thought I'd run a concept drop top by you.
Dang, that last comment was harsh. I think it made sense. I used odd shapes to make it more interesting. It was just a design I did in about 20 minutes, just playing around. Drawing is just a hobby. I don't claim to be any good at it. I just wanted to share it with people who cared. :-) *G*

model_citizen, they do care. If they didn't, they wouldn't have given you advice on what to work on with your drawings.

or did you want a proper critique of what you're presenting? If you want more detail; the side is too slabby. The rear wing after where it meets the side slash and begins to turn over to form the rear of the car is where the surfaces don't work. The arc that you put into the sill doesn't make sense because you can't tell if it is an upward arc going up the door panel, or an indented arc that forms the sill of the car. This in turn affects the door and the rear wing again. Is the door flat as the edges suggest or does it curve like some of the details suggest? That's what I mean by the surfaces not making sense. That's why I said you need to practice drawing cars more and pay more attention to how curves behave.

No disrespect to you. You're rather short and blunt, and that could be a good thing sometimes. Basically, I wanted to know if the concept was a good idea, not necessarily the drawing in itself. I appreciate your comments! Don't take me wrong. After your evaluation in your second post, I see some details I could fix. Although it doesn't have a rear wing, it could use some touching up in the rear. The side panel is an indention in the door at the bottom, so I guess I need to show that better. The top panel should look bulky because it is. I wanted it to be a little larger than a regular door so it goes up and then flares in toward the cockpit w/ the door handle there. I've never had any training drawing anything, and sometimes I get the curves right. I taught myself to draw cars while in high school, and it has been a hobby ever since. My day job is teaching English, so I don't have much time to draw. I'm 24 now Edge, if it were me of whom you were speaking. This sketch was just something extra I wanted to run by some very talented people! Usually I have reference pics for the curves, but once in awhile I pull an original design off. Re: Just thought I'd run a concept drop top by you.
by rear wing, i meant the part of body forming the rear of the car over the wheel - not a spoiler.
as i said in my first post; there are some good design ideas and details there. The thing that is letting it down is that the drawing isn't showing them properly; hence not "making sense". While a drawing doesn't need to be 100% accurate to convey an idea; the better the drawing, the less there is to question. What this ultimately comes down to, is practice. Draw more cars, get used to how curves interact and before you know it, it'll be second nature. If I seem too blunt and brief, that might be down to having gotten used to it. Sometimes, when you have to sit through 30+ presentations in a day, you learn to be direct. That's not to mention that usually, if i was doing this in a more professional environment, I'd just sit and sketch something to show what I mean which takes considerably less time.
