Question 2002 Monte Carlo SS Dash Cluster Replacement.

Hello Everyone....I need to replace my dashboard cluster in my 2002 Monte Carlo SS Limited Edition.I was told by my service manager at the dealer that i can no longer purchase a NEW cluster because they are no longer available by GM.I have to purchase a refurbished cluster and then have them reprogram the original mileage into the refurb cluster.I got a great deal on a brand new cluster over the internet but was told that it may start on Zero miles when installed but it could be reprogramed by the onboard computer when the car is started after the first initial start up...Can anyone tell me if the cars computer will program the original miles back on the odometer when i first start the car after install or will i have to buy a refurb cluster and have the dealer program the original mileage back into it? Any help on this issue is greatly appreciated! Thanks! AL

I believe you will have to have this done on the tech11 scanner at the dealer, you better document the old mileage, very important.

Re: 2002 Monte Carlo SS Dash Cluster Replacement.

Just to keep all of you who read my post updated...I am waiting on my 3rd cluster from the Chevy dealers parts department. The first instrument cluster the GM refurbishing center sent me ,the voltmeter and the gas gauges were very dim compared to the rest of the cluster.....looked like crap at night!! The second cluster was a little better but not by much....This one had a dimly lit speedometer section which also looked like crap at night. The parts dept at my local Chevy dealership didnt want to order me a 3rd cluster cuz they said my Monte had a cluster short cuz they never had problems like these with the refurb units.I told them no way and also had my dealer mechanic check out my SS and he said the cluster was at fault and NOT my car.....So we shall see what happens next week when hopefully i will get a good refurb unit.I'm tired of going through this hassel with these refurbished clusters! Wish GM continued manufacturing NEW ones instead of trying to fix the bad ones and reselling them again!
