post-metro suggestions?

Hello,
I have a 94 geo metro that I absolutely love, but I fear that this may be it's last New England winter. Do folks here have suggestions regarding what other makes/models to look at for my next car?

What I love about the metro:

innexpensive
incredible MPG
small

I don't have a ton of money to spend, unfortunately. Any suggestions on what I might consider? I'd buy another metro, but in this area the ones you come by are usually pretty beat up and rusted out.

Thanks!

Re: post-metro suggestions?

I am a Metro fan myself, even though I've only owned one for a few months. I think it is actually worth the drive to find one. I myself found one for sale through an online classifieds site, (I Looked for months), then drove over 6 hours one way to purchase it. And, I love it, and am very happy with it. My family and I made a little mini vacation out of it, by going to the local zoo while we were there....

Re: post-metro suggestions?

Only a Metro/Suzuki Swift delivers like a Metro (size, weight, MPG, price).

A used Toyota Tercel comes to mind.
A used Honda CRX HF comes to mind, if you can find one.

An older diesel VW Rabbit ('82-'85 ?) will deliver the mileage, but the newest/nicer VW diesel engines (TDI) are hard to come by cheap.
They'd be in a newer ('98 >) Jetta.

Re: post-metro suggestions?

Why do you think your Metro has come to it's end...?

Tell us the specifics.

You can rebuild that engine fairly easily...

If you have some tools, two hands, can count to three, and wear
clothing, you can rebuild that engine yourself!

I rebuilt mine and I am a clutz and am old and dull.....

Don't give up on it!

"...New England winter..."
This leads me to believe it's a body rust issue, rather than a sick motor...
