Unhappy Driving me insane!

Ok so hears the deal. I have an idling problem. My car idles high when im driving it. Every time i put the car in neutral it starts idling kinda high. At least until i put it back in gear or i come to a complete stop. Now i got it checked out at a shop and they cleaned up my Idle Air Control valve, they said it might need replacing anyway. It worked great for about a week. Bought a new one from the autoparts store and the damn thing did nothing. It was actually worse than my old messed up one. Had that one replaced and it did the same thing. Had a mechanic come to my house and he said it was my throttle position sensor and was sticking. Bought a new one and that did nothing. The only thing that seems to be working is when i disconnect that TPS. Sure i have a service light on all the time now, but i dont want to drive around like that! Someone please help, cuz im starting to go nuts over this!

Re: Driving me insane!

It works with TPS disconnected because the ECM is using base programming when you disconnect sensors like that. Did you check for vacuum leaks and did you have the car scanned for codes?

Re: Driving me insane!

that makes sense about the computer running on basic programs.stupid mechanic! yea i had the car scanned for codes, but since i had no service engine light on i didn't get any readings. I havent checked for vaccum leaks. How do i go about checking for any?

Re: Driving me insane!

The best way of doing this is to use a smoke machine, But using brake cleaner does the job also. Spray around the intake manifold and all hoses while the engine is running, if the brake cleaner gets sucked in via leak you should notice the rpm get a little higher while spraying the brake cleaner.
