06 Impala LT - Intermediate Steering Shaft

A few thousand miles ago I had my intermediate steering shaft replaced under warranty because I was getting a lot of clicking/clunking when turning.
Well of course now I am out of warranty and it's happening again. One garage said they could repack it for about $100, but it should really be replaced by the dealer. He said there were several TSB's on this issue.

I went back to the dealer and they will not do anything. They said "that part is no good and would probably need to be replaced every 2 years anyways". But then he went on to say that GM has since modified the part. I think it's crap that I should have to keep paying for this part since they seem to know it is defective. I know it isnt a safety issue, but I want to get it fixed...it's annoying. Any advice?

There is a 1 800 number to call chevy with problems like this. I think it is in your owners manual. You could try that next.

Report this defect to NHTSA if this is a saftey defect they may force GM to extend this repair war. period. If you pay to repair this make sure to save receipts and you may be reimbuised by GM down the road. Also get repair done at a repair shop that will give you war. period just in case it repeats again. the dealer may have re-packed it with saw dust and grease because you were close to expiration of war..

Re: 06 Impala LT - Intermediate Steering Shaft

I was able to talk to the service manager at my local dealer and they are going to replace it at no charge.
