Re: Supercharging a silverado
Im guessing your looking into the 5.3L, check out STS turbos, they make a remote mounted turbo that gives 5psi for $4000 exactly. this kit comes with everything and you can run 5 psi on stock internals all day long. They also offer turbo/intercooler upgrades for more boost. but the silverado has plenty of room under the hood for a traditional blower. Yeah I would have a shop install it also, something about tapping the oil pan i just dont like. They will prob charge you quite a bit to install, at least $800 thats just a guesstimate. watch the video to see how much boost this dude is running http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOm-16y8NqM

Re: Supercharging a silverado
no its not, when the motor is idle, the turbo is idle, they run off exhuast flow, when you give it gas the exhuast spins 1 fan that runs to another fan and that pushes air back up to the intake, somewhere inline there is a waste gate that is controlled by computer that regulates how much boost you get and at what RPM range you want it. there is a huge debate over super vs turbo, get some coffee and google it. dont worry about turbo lag, yes it does exist, its the time between standing start and when the turbo starts spinning, and between shifts its non existant.

Re: Supercharging a silverado
If I were to boost my silverado I would go Turbo, even though both GM and Ford use superchargers to boost theres, and Dodge uses turbo (factory)

Re: Supercharging a silverado
The supercharger is great for low end. It is constaint.
Turbo's like what is mentioned has to warm up to get the boost you want.. it typically does not take that long though

Re: Supercharging a silverado
would anyone try one of those $500 cheap turbos off ebay? would you HAVE to run with an intercooler? you could get a little turbo and tell people your truck was turbocharged and with your v8+small turbo noone would laugh...
