93 Taurus 3.0L Power Steering Fluid

My friend has a 93 Taurus 3.0L auto. No owners manual. The Haynes 86-95 Taurus states Auto Tranny Fluid Type F for the power steering.

So, I should stay with type F? or go to Mercon/DexIII? And what's the difference between F and Mercon?

Thanks, Doug

Type F is just a little "grittier". The3 Dextron or Mercon III will give a "smoother" response. You will probably not feel any difference in the driving.
