Radio exchange question

I would like to exchange my standard single disk CD radio to the upgrade 6 disk system for my G6. Can I exchange it even, wiring the same etc.? I also cannot figure out how to get to the radio to take it out either. There are no screws in sight to remove. If this is a big headache, maybe I will just live with the one in the car. Thanks for any help out there.

From what i understand, the single disc and 6 disc both use the same wiring harness. The only thing that could add to the wiring is if you have monsoon or the XM radio. I believe there are additonal wires that need to be plugged in. For removal of the radio... you need to remove the face plate around the radio and hvac controls. This normally is held in by clips that pop off... however i believe it's a little more complicated since you have to access this partially through the glove box... if i cna find a link with some instruction I'll post it for you.... The radio has 4 screws I believe that hold it in place. Good luck!

Re: Radio exchange question

Does Pontiac have a radio that has speed sensitive volume? I have a hard time hearing my radio if I turn it to a normal volume, and then speed up to a speed of about 60 mph. I used to have an Impala with the speed sensitive volume and it worked great. Any ideas on that?

Yes they do have the speed sensative radio settings. It should be the button that says auto with a triangle sort of thing going from small to large. It should be next to the volume button to the left. If I'm not mistaken its available on all the different radio models for the G6.

Re: Radio exchange question

My radio must be a base unit because there is no auto button on it. When I was looking at the 6 disc changer, I noticed the cd player is below the screen, whereas my base unit is above the screen. That means I would also have to buy a different face plate, correct?

Re: Radio exchange question

huh, I thought even the base radio had that button or so i thought i had saw. Well the face plate around the radio is the same on all models. GM wouldn't go through the trouble to make more then one face plate for around the radio to accomodate different models. If you want I'll measure my radio which is a 6 disc and it should match yours as well.

Re: Radio exchange question

No thanks, I don't want you to go thru any trouble. I will probably have to live with what I have for a while. I have a car show coming up next weekend and I need to do some work on my '70 Nova. I'll worry about this one after that. Thanks for all the info. If and when I change it, I'll let you know what I find and how it goes. Thanks again.
