its true that it will reduce engine life, but any mod you put on your car reduces engine life. so if your worried about engine life then you better leave your car stock or not even run it, just sit there and look at it.

you could always go nos, because then you only use it when your racing. a turbo is on all the time, nos is only when you use it for a race

A P&P would cut life too what kinda of b18 are you running? a b is great for turbo but c1 or c5 would be better supercharged imho ummm blown b18c5

hey ace, why would a b18c1 or c5 be better supercharged? id love to hear an explanation on that one. yah and of course a turbo would lower engine life but understand something. if you build your engine to handle high boost or run it at low boost then you wont run into any reliability problems. imho a port and polish is only good if your going all out on the motor. it wont give anywhere near the hp its worth paying for unless you got some crazy cams, valve springs and insane compression. not to mention new exhaust, headers, and intake. like i always say, stay away from superchargers, im not going into that again unless you want me to. but i have convinced many people to stay away from them and all of them were happy they did. dont make that mistake.

Sorry Ed but i'm going have to ask why your not into superchargers. Don't get me wrong i like turbos too but I think with the setup the c5 works amazingly with a supercharger. I understand the pros and cons of both maybe its just how i like my motors to behave. but to each there own.

yah its just like you said, its your motor, your opinion and you like it that way so i have no problem with that. if you would like to hear why i dont like superchargers then keep on reading. first, the belt. i cant stand the fact that my whole engine relies on one little rubber belt. i know countless people that their blower belt has come off and they needed complete overhauls afterwards. and these people changed it regularly and took care of their cars so it wasnt from misuse. second, power. yah its great that it comes in early, but if i can just wait half a second more for the boost to come on then i can outpower a supercharged car with a turbo anyday. superchargers have limits. turbos are only limited by the engine they are connected to. third, torque. if its one thing our cars dont have is torque. unles you have a b20 or bigger i dont think any smaller engines have enough torque to EFFICIENTLY turn a supercharger and move the car. thats just my opinion. fourth, price. a turbo setup can be had for much cheaper than a supercharger. superchargers must be bought new and when something goes wrong, the whole thing has to be replaced or rebuilt. with a turbo system there is less to go wrong and its much easier and cheaper to repair............

as i said thats my opinion ace. dont take it personally or anyone else thats out there with a supercharger. hey at the moment you could smoke me!!! but remember i said AT THE MOMENT!!!

any replies ace???

imo---turbo is the way to go----as far as reliability and ruduced engine life, yes it will shorten the life but only when u beat on your car----remember a turbo isnt spooling all that much under 4k, and for everday driving to u really have to rev over 4k--nope just when racing----and it wont shorten your lifspan any more than a supercharger would---are u boosting on a c5????--hows that working out for u with the higher cr, and what have u done to make sure theres no detonation--good tuning is all it takes i know--just wondering how u went with it---

Sorry it's been so long to reply but my comps been down. As i said before I think it has to do with how you drive. I really like that low end for a street car and no lag is another factor for the supercharger. I never have heard about a belt blowing but your right it would mess up the motor badly. I'm not running a blown c5 yet. Although i think you'd need to lower the C.R. because i think it's 11.5-1.
As for the torque they make superchargers for ZCs and B16s that are smaller and make less torque then a C5. As for the turbos i've heard many horror stories about all Greddys and the APexI is more the a Supercharger. As I said before i'm not anti turbo its just all about how you drive.

what horror stories have you heard about the greddy and apexi turbos? even if they did get messed up its not terminal to the engine. you can rebuild for 100 bucks or get a whole new one for like 400 bucks.

imo, if i was gonna get a kit instead of going with a custon setup---- id probaly say the easiest kit to install and make decent power with is a drag gen 3 ----- thats what i would go with

yah but as you said, thats a kit and not custom. and i dont think that it includes the intercooler. you could make a custom kit with intercooler for less than the drag 3 without the intercooler.

The stories i've heard about the greddy are overheating and boost issues my friend had a greddy on his 93 civic hatch and boost would appear at anywear from 2-6k he had pros install and had another shop check it no one could find what was wrong with it. The apexi I meant to say was just alot for the kit it's a nice kit though. But if i go turbo I've been looking into a custom setup with a trust turbo not sure the size though probbly something small for street/AutoX. But i'm still not sure either way i'll wait till i swap.

i dont know whats wrong with your friends turbo. i cant understand your explanation but turbo systems are very simple. if the turbo is surging which may be what youre talking about its from either too much backpressure from a clogged cat, pipes being too small, or even a blow off valve that cant handle the pressure. but if they are "PROS" they should be able to fix it easily

Lower compression, get forgies, bolt on turbo/manifold, tune your computer and kick everyones ass. Good luck with your project mate, it sounds good to me. There is no better feeling than VTEC popping when also coming on turbo booost. :alien2:

Ozzie. I should really stop posting technical info when pissde on chpea beer. hahahha.
