well i have a 1988 dodge dakota with a 3.9L TBI and my oil pump went out and was forced to drive an extra few miles and well the motor dont sound to good now so i was wondering how much modification will it require (other then my flywheel swap from auto to manual) but the biggest issue is the other 3.9 i have is out of a 1994 magnum dakota (PFI) so i see this as a large issue will i be able to swap my harness and computer to make this work? or will i need to swap my intake manifold and will it al line up and work correcctly then? i just need my truck back asap thanks for any suggestions guys

Re: dakoto motor swap (bad issues)
If you buy this motor from a junk yard pay a little extra and buy any electrical or other parts you might need. I've never done this swap but from past experience buy the whole truck if wrecked then scrap what you don't need.
Numerous little parts add up quickly at today's prices. |

Re: dakoto motor swap (bad issues)
well if you have a bad single port injection motor and you have a good magnum motor coming i would just change the whole motor out there is more horse power there and the intake wont work they have the same block but thats about it the heads are different. now for the trans part from taking it to auto to manual all you need is a main pilot bearing and the fleywheel and cluch stuff you will also need the crank senor off the manual because it is a tid bit sorter than the auto. And this is a easy motor to change the bolts are easy. And to change it to a magnum you just need the computer wireing harness and fuel rail.

Re: dakoto motor swap (bad issues)
i already have the truck with the magnum but as i said the magnum is in a 94 and the bad single port is in a 88 and i looked at the computers and the magnum has an extra harness comming off the computer i dont know if this will cause issues or not but i was told the intake will mount up i just need to change the angle on a couple holes in the intake is this true? and how much difference will there be between the magnum and regualy (HP and Torque wise)

Re: dakoto motor swap (bad issues)
also if i got ahold of a 318 magnum how hard of a conversion is it to put this in the manual and will the 3.9 magnum have the same flywheel as a 318 magnum (main question is will this be a bolt to bort and wirehaness/computer swap or will the be a whole jungle of wires/motor mount and trans alignment issues?
