Re: Drawn to the Past?
Everyone feels that way sometimes…looking back on the past brings up memories…good times, or before a friend or loved one died…I don’t think it’s sadness I thinks it just a longing for times that have long since passed

Re: Drawn to the Past?
I don't know about specific sadness, but I'm heavy on nostalgia. I like looking at stuff from the past and remembering "the good old days" when life was simpler and easier, but I think thats typical of anybody over the age of 21 and realizing that they are (or should) be becoming a responsible adult. And plus a lot of new stuff sucks.

Re: Drawn to the Past?
It's easy to become nostalgic about the past, especially those pics or movies etc specifically intended to generate nostalgia.
There was lots to hate about the 50's and 60's, including a polio epidemic, widespead pollution, racial segregation, the Cold War and (allegedly) imminent Soviet nuclear attack, the Korean war, Suez crisis, Cuba (et al.), Vietnam, and, most of all, lousy handling cars that got terrible mileage. It's odd how those 'nostalgia' pics and movies rarely address these issues. |

Now the song is stuck in my head I think being nostalgic may have a lot to do with the lack of responsibility and experience you have in your younger days. As you grow older, the more responsibilities you'll likely have and the less time you'll have to stop and appreciate the good things in life. When I was 10, my day consisted of waking up at 8, eating breakfast while watching cartoons, going to school for 8 hours, then I had pretty much the rest of the day to do as I pleased. But when you have to get up, make your kids beakfast, take them to school, work for 8 hours, pick up the kids, make them dinner, bargain with the guy that comes to shut off your water cause you forgot to send the check, clean up the mess in the hallway, etc you rarely get a chance to sit back and apprecate the good stuff in your life. Thats why I try to appreciate the good stuff going on in my life right now since I just graduated college and haven't started working yet... even though a major point of stress in my life is my lack of employment. But in the mean time, I post on af, I listen to my favorite music, I watch Wheel of Fortune (best game how on tv ) and hopefully as I grow older I'll be able to appreciate the present so I won't have to be nostalgic about the past.
