Question 92 Pontiac Gran Prix

The first sign of problems was crusing along and then it dies, my son put it in N and restarted then it died again.

The car will start now but dies shortly after start.

Can't get it to a mechanic to fix because it keeps dying, would really rather not have to pay a tow bill.

Any suggestions as to what the problem would be? Where should we start?

Thanks,

WEEB3

Re: 92 Pontiac Gran Prix

Welcome to AF!!

There are two possibilities. The crank position sensor would be my first guess. They will usually go bad but allow the engine to restart. I don't know if this car has a security system or not but if it does that would be my second guess. Finally, there may be an issue with the fuel pump relay. This would be much easier to change than the CPS so start there. Good Luck!

The CPS is located behind the harmonic balancer. This is the same sensor that Criticalaudioinc spoke of especially if you have a 3.8.
