bearings?

I have a 2000 jeep cherokee 4.0l sport. There is a sound comming from the fr right wheel. Almost like the tires have really low air in them. It gets to a higher pitch when you are speeding up. When you slow down to an almost stop, you can here a clicking noise from the right tire. I have almost brand new tires on the car. Air tire pressure is good. What do you think it might be?

Re: bearings?

The bearings are of the non-serviceable type. Meaning that they actually have to be replaced if they've gone on you...

To check if the bearings for that wheel have gone, you jack that wheel up from under the axle leaving the tire on the rig.

Now place your hands at the 12 and 6 positions and firmly push/pull the tire itself.

Rotate the wheel 25 degrees or so and repeat until you've covered the full rotation of the wheel.

If you've felt ANY play in the wheel, you're bearing needs replacing.

Understand of course that any other hand positions other than 12 and 6 will bring the steering system into factor. Of course that will have some play in it.

Here's a great write-up by Go-Jeep:
