1994 Deville Concours engine knock.

Just bought a 94 deville concours for about 200 bucks from a family member. The car has 198,000 miles on it. The car is in excellant shape inside and out, but I have noticed that the engine knocks when I turn the car on and when its in idel it knocks like there is no oil in it. I checked the oil, and needed about 2 courts. Well it still knocks, but when you are on the highway you can not tell at all if it is or not. But just driving around town you can hear the engine knock. Funny thing is that I have now noticed that early in the moarning before i go to work, i start the car and i dont hear a damn sound. The car sounds like a caddi should quiet and powerful. It is not until the day heats up, or if I have been driving around alot does the engine start to knock. I do not have any leaks, and my oil is at max on the stick. The only light that comes on is service engine soon and traction control, but other than that I have no idea whats going on. Oh let me add that this car was sitting in storage for about 4 and a half years, and was just recently started and drove about 3 and a half months ago. I know my fuel gauge reads empty all the time, dont know how to fix that, and a new message comes on saying service ride control. My engine oil life reading keep going down and dont know how to reset or fix those lights. Other than that car drives fast and great.

Welcome to AF. We cannot diagnose engine noises in this environment, sounds internal by your description, but you need someone to listen to this on site.

Try one thing. With the engine running and warm and the noise present, use a breaker bar to ease the tension on the serp belt idler pulley. Does the noise change or go away? If so you likely have the infamous 4.9 #1 main bearing clearance issue. Not a serious problem, just annoying. There is a special service part to deal with it.
