Any POWER CURVE (rpm vs torque) published for the 3 cylinder Suzuki engine?

The title says it all....the one in my '93 Metro?

Just wondering what gear and rpm to use going up a hill with a heavy load.

Re: Any POWER CURVE (rpm vs torque) published for the 3 cylinder Suzuki engine?

Your really dealing with a "Limited" amount of Torque / Range in these engines and transmissions Doc. I too have to deal with the occasional hills in my area...25- 30MPH.....3RD Gear. At 40...4TH Gear etc..

91-94 Geo Metro engine specs:

Powertrain Options and Availability
All Metros used a 1.0-liter, overhead-cam 3-cylinder engine. Rated 52 or 55 horsepower in standard form, it developed just 49 horses when installed in the frugal XFi Metro. A 5-speed manual transmission was standard; 3-speed automatic available on base and LSi versions (but not XFi).

Engines Size : liters ohc I3 1.0 / 61 CUI
Horsepower: 52-55
Torque : 56-58 ft lbs
Fuel Capacity : gals. 10.6
Fuel Mileage : 5-speed manual: 46/49 3-speed automatic: 36/39

Re: Any POWER CURVE (rpm vs torque) published for the 3 cylinder Suzuki engine?

Someone or some organization must have put this engine on a dynamometer and
measured the power output vs rpm....like this:

http://www.epi-eng.com/ET-Eng-Gen-1.htm

Isn't it a rather "famous" Suzuki engine - used in motorcycles originally?

I've heard that they used these engines in small planes Doc....But not in motorcycles that I'm aware of? Most Suzuki bike engies are 4 Cyl. Given that the engine makes a peak HP of 52-55 horses, I'd say the only one to put it on a dyno would be Suzuki or GM during the research and development phases of the engines.

It's one of the few gas engines that I've seen that has a (marginally) higher torque value than horsepower value.

Usually that relationship is inverse for gassers (hp > torque).
