swapping escort engines

will a 1.9L engine from a 1992 5 speed standard fit into a 1.9L 1996 automatic?

Yes. They both are 2nd generation engines. You will have to take the flywheel off the standard engine and replace it with the flywheel and torque converter of the 96 engine. Then it should be a bolt on process. There may be some minor varations I'm not aware of. Can anybody else shed some light on this problem?

I dont know about cars made for the Canadian emissions, but our 92 1.9L (federal) doesnt have an EGR system, while I think the later (federal) Escorts do. So you would want to use the EGR tubing and valve arrangement (and throttle body?) from the 96, or fool the computer into thinking there was an EGR control solenoid connected. ??
