beginner mods?

i personally do not own a probe, but i have a friend who is considering a probeGT and im wondering if he can beat my non turbo 3000gt with basic mods? and just to be cruious what are they and how much would some of them cost? (hey im friends with him, i guess i can help him out lol)

myfirst mod was a ze swap then flywheel,clutch,msd and so on if i was to do it again i would do a nice cold air intake,headers and msd combo these cars run pig rich as it is so msd is a nice upgrade every thing just feels better as far as throttle response and idle
