Cylinder liners
I am one of the many that have a 530i with nikosil liners in my block. The engine is currently doing great, no hessitation, no stumbling on start up, however I know about the nikosil's past and with my car not being covered under the 100,000 mile waranty I worry. My question is if it is possible to have a machine shop change out the nikosil liners for alumasil liners, or if there has to be a complete block swap? Has anyone ever encountered this? Thanks

That's a question you'll have to ask of a machine shop.
I honestly can't see why not. Unless there is some type of special bonding process that BMW used specifically so you couldn't. What the hell, ask a beamer dealership mechanic...that's probably the one person who would know. After all it doesn't cost anything to ask...hopefully.
