Cool 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Problems

Hi Everyone,

I have a problem with my jgcl dying when i turn the a/c on. It runs good as long as i am steadily driving down the road, but when i come to a stop sign or red light, it dies. The regulater needle doesn't go all the way to 14 when this happens. i have change the alternator and put a new battery in it but no change.

Also i have a problem with, [ I think] the drive shaft spline. It feels like someone tapping me lightly from the rear end when taking off or stopping. Can someone tell me if this true and how to fix it? I saw on one thread where someone said that greasing the spline on the driveshaft would solve this problem. True????

Thanks for any help i can get,

Taz57

Thumbs up Re: 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Problems

The stalling problem was on my 1994 JGC too when I bought it used. Found out that the throttle body was very dirty. Take your finger and wipe under the throttle plates when it is not running and see if you get tons of black crap on your finger? If you do then take some carb cleaner and a soft tooth brush and scrub the throttle body and plates. Then spray the throat too. Let stand for a while and start. You may blow some white smoke while you burn out the carb cleaner but you will run a lot better and the stalling should stop. If not then take the small plug out of the throttle body for the idle screw and adjust it up while running to a comfortable idle.

As much as the tapping of the driveshaft spline. I would lean to say the spline is worn and should be replace. Check the male and female ends and see if you see some damage or worn splines. I do not think grease will solve this problem if it is slipping or jumping teeth.

Clean the Throttle body and that problem will be gone. Mine would stall going around corners, stopping at red lights or stop signs.

Have a great weekend.

Re: 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Problems

With the rough idle - on mine I changed the IAC (idle air controller) and that helped somewhat. Then someone on here suggested changing the ignition coil. I changed it and that did the trick. SJ
