I lost my GAS CAP!!

hey guys, I have a 99 Civic EX, and I just lost my gas cap. I accidently left it on top of my trunk, and while I was driving it fell off and got ran over by another car. Well anyways just wondering if this gas cap will fit my car...http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cg...555732&r=0&t=0
I think it might fit, but i want to be sure. Thanx

I would just go tot he dealership and get one. I know, I know, the dealerships will rip you off, in most cases. Sometimes though, they will have what you need at the right price. My friend lost the fender well liner on his 96 Accord, and they had the part in stock and only charged him $25. I would see the dealership first... but that's just me

I cant believe someone was selling a gas cap on e-bay!!!

Since about the late 80s all gas caps on Japanes, American and most european cars have been the same. They may have diffrent stuff printed on them, and have a diffrent shaped end to turn, but the thread and seal is the identical.
Basicly you could use a cap of a Ford explorer, or a Toyora, or a Nissan and it will work.
Just goto a wreacker walk in, grab a similar cap of a car, put it your pocket, tell them they didnt have what you were looking for and walk out.

your engine might stall and shake becuase you have no gas cap. there is no pressure build up in the tank. Like, you know when you go to fill up your tank, and you hear a "shhhhhhhhhh" That is the pressure releasing. Without a gas cap, you might not be getting good gas flow, which would cause your car to stall.

That's a great ethics lesson from our resident philosophy major!

Check your front tires for excessive wear on the insides. My car used to do this a lot. Make sure you're rotating your tires every other oil change or so...

Just too let you know. your engine light is on from not having a gas cap.

Swander67 On the newer hondas you need to have the correct cap for the correct pressure in he tank. Thats why his engine light is on.

I see this every day at work. I work in a parts dept for a Honda dealer. We sell at least 2-3 gas caps a day. Also a little tip if you have a newer accord 98 - up. Do not fill it to the rim because gas leaks down the side tubes into the canister and wrecks them. :flash:

Yea, shoulda known that it was my gas cap that caused the engine light. I went to the dealer, they charged me 6.50 for the cap and additional 40 something bucks to check the engine out to see if there were any probs. Oh my brake rotors were damaged or soemthing?? so they had to machine it and replace the pad. TOTAL COST: $240 bucks. Dam that hurt. I thought everything was gonna be covered under warranty. oh well. So GUYS remember dont freakin lose your gas cap and if u do hurry up and replace it before the engine light goes off.

Just a curious question, were your brakes worn or did they make a high pitchd squeel when braking for a while before you took it in? If not, I don't see how your rotors were damaged.

My brakes did not squeal, instead they were vibrating very severly under heavy braking. Im not sure if it was the rotors that were damaged, but the guy told me he had to machine something, I think I remember him talking about the rotors, and replace the pads.

6.50 cap
40.00 inspection

193.50 For Pads and Turned Rotors?! what the hell they charge you for? Even then replacing the calipers/rotors/pads shouldn't cost you more than ~$165 at a brake/alignment shop.

You can get rotors turned for an average of 10bucks (turned = "machined" i would imagine) and brake pads can be bought for around 11.50 at Nappa. = ~31.50. ? This is of course you replace yer pads and put yer rotors on yerself....

hrmm jus my .02 and its good yer back rollin'
