Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Stall Issue

Hello all,

Thanks a lot for your help in advance...

I have a 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. What happened was that i had it sit in my garage for a while but I still started the car and drove around several times in a month. Well, one day, i couldn't start the engine. I thought the battery was dead, so i had the battery charged. Then i could start the engine but it didn't start all the way. So, i was told that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. I had it replaced and everything started GREAT.

I thought it would be it. So, i started the engine and drove around from places to places. On the first day, everything seemed to be OK. On the second day and so on so forth, the car just dies while i am driving. However, i can start the engine right away and continue to drive for a couple of miles and the car just shuts down by itself suddenly and automatically right away. I told my friend who is a mechanic about this and he did many different tests on the car and it all showed OK. No problem with the battery, alternator, no codes, etc...

If i turn the engine on and leave it on, it will last as long as I want, but as soon as I start driving, it just shuts down by itself again.

This is very dangerous if the car just dies when i try to make a left turn or drive on the highway.

When it dies, all the lights are lit up on the dash board. Now I really don't know what causes the issue. If I took it to the repair shop, they would probably say that either battery or alternator or fuel pump or fuel filter might be the culprit. Let me confirm that my friend, a very good mechanic, did test and say that it gotta be something else because the test showed no error codes, the battery and alternator are still good, gas is full, etc....

When you have a chance, please read this and give me some advice.

Thank you very much.

Re: Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Stall Issue

You need to do some more testing. Tape a fuel pressure guage to the winsheld and have a extra spark plug. Take it for a ride . When the engine dies, do you have fuel pressure ? do you have spark ? Then you can go from there.

Re: Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Stall Issue

I had a starting problem with my 91 Cutlass Ciera once and the problem was a corroded connection on the connector going through the fire wall (C100). Initially I managed to wiggle/ tighten the bolt on the connector and got it to work for a while. I finally fixed the problem by jumpering the connection with a soldered wire.
Try disconnecting the connector at the firewall and inspecting the contacts for burned/ corroded pins.
