Clutch Adjustment
I have a 97 metro 5 speed. The dealer showed me papers a transmission was put in and he said a new clutch to.
The clutch has about 2-3 inches free play and very little stiff part. It seems to release ok. Any idea's on how to adjust it so the free play is normal? Could the arm be on the splined shaft in the wrong position? |

Re: Clutch Adjustment
The arm could be on in the wrong position, but first try the normal adjustment. At the other end of the arm, the cable goes through it and has a nut on the end. Just turn the nut to take up the free play. Not much of a dealer no matter which problem you have.

Re: Clutch Adjustment
How would you know where to put the arm on? In what position? I already tried the adjustment nut. No effect.

Re: Clutch Adjustment
'98 service manual shows dots on the shaft and arm that must be aligned like timing marks. I know the earlier cars had an arm made of sheet metal which was prone to cracking. My 98 has a cast arm, don't know when they changed. What do you mean by "no affect", is the nut run all the way in and ran out of threads?

Re: Clutch Adjustment
It was the arm. Off two little splines from the dot. 2 splines translates to about 1.5 inches at the other end!
