Running Extremely Rich
My truck has been running very rich lately. It is so bad that everyone gets out of my lane and gives me dirty looks, and i end up being the only person in that lane. It keeps burning out the converters, i am on my 3rd one in 2 months(keep glowing red hot). I did a tune up(plugs, wires, cap, rotor) and it did nothing to solve the problem, as the new plugs are black again. Are there any sensors i need to check, because i think the injectors are working to hard as the air filter is soaked in gas. What u think, map sensor, egr valve, o2. I hope it is not all three as i am sort of straped for cash.

Re: Running Extremely Rich
Test fuel pump pressure. It could be your fuel pump regulator.

Re: Running Extremely Rich
Thanks for all your help, it turned out the Egr Vacuum Solenoid was completely shot making the egr valve stay open all the time. Autozone scanned the computer for free and found the problem. It only cost $40 the part and it runs great now, still stinks slightly but that is because i still need a new cat because it got ruined when it was running bad. At least people can drive next to me now.

Re: Running Extremely Rich
Glad you found he problem and got it fixed.
Give the cat a chance to clean it's self up. But after running rich I would give it a oil and filter change. There may be a gas in the oil. Good luck. MT
