Angry Crank shaft pully

After my power steering belt broke it took out the alt. belt. I went to replace it and noticed that the Crank shaft pully is now against the frame and doesnt move. WTF does this mean?

Re: Crank shaft pully

That's nearly impossible to happen. Is it a new pulley? Ya they sit close, but there's about 1/2 inch inbetween the 2.

Re: Crank shaft pully

Is it fully seated on the shaft? Maybe broken motor mount?

Can you post up a pic showing this? Like from a good angle showing everything. Thanks.

Re: Crank shaft pully

Im guessing a motor mount broke. This should be very obvious since the motor would be leaning bad

Re: Crank shaft pully

Yeah dude, that sounds crazy as hell. A picture would be great, this is pretty confusing to me. Pulley bent maybe? I'm not sure if missing a mount will allow it to lean that far. At the same time, how would one bend a fuckin underdrive pulley?

Re: Crank shaft pully

Those things are impossible to bend. You ever try? They're solid metal.

Even if it was off-centered, it still couldn't hit the frame.

If the bolt going down the center to the crank was off/loose, you would hear and have busted the belts long time ago. Those are nearly impossible to just come loose and pop off. I had to crow bad mine off. Wasn't easy. And that was already it was off a couple years back for replacing. If it was loose and rubbing, you would see wear on the frame itself where it's against. Is there damage there?

Even with a broken motor mount, I don't think the pulley could touch the frame. If you lost the front mount (pulley side), the tranny mount will still be holding the engine straight. If any of the rollers broke, the engine still wouldn't move. Ya there'd be more give in the motor, but not enough to move it over those couple inches.

This isn't making sense to me. We really need pics here.

Re: Crank shaft pully

No way a broken motor mount would cause the engine to move significantly, muchless bend a pulley.

I don't see how this is possible, and without pictures it's hard to tell what the guy is talking about.

Re: Crank shaft pully

I'm guessing that the crank bolt has been gone for awhile and the pulley spun on the crank long enough it loosened it up and worked itself off. You need to put the pulley back on and re-install the bolt that goes down the center of the crank. Then get new belts and drive your car.

EDIT: Are we talking about a turbo or non-turbo, and what year?

Re: Crank shaft pully

Sorry its been so long. I went to jail for the last time I was racing my car. But I'll see what I can do about posting some pics. Nothing seems broke but the pully is pushed against the frame and bearly moves. Theres no play back and forth or side to side. I'm afraid something blew inside the engine but I dont have the resources to fix this piece!!! I hate this car with a passion. I've had nothing but problems. Its not like I can trade it in either.

Ahh, the reason why we don't race.

You didn't blow anything on the inside. The only way that the crank pulley can be pushed out and have some inside wrong would be like a broken crank shaft... but that doesn't happen.

The other reason we dont race. What the hell did you expect homie? Obviously you race a lot, I dont believe for a second that you went to jail for racing just once. Racing a car thats been abused and neglected, breaking down is just whats going to happen and yeah it sucks but its not the car's fault.
