Idle Speed

Could someone post a picture on where the idle screw is located on a 94 geo metro manual transmission. I have tried to find it and have had no luck. I would like to know because my car has been idling high when I'm stopped at a light and then drops back down when I start to move again.

It's no where near the transmission, idle speed is controlled on the throttle body, but I doubt very much if that's your problem. Idle speed is controlled by the computer through the idle speed controller and a separate high idle controller that is mounted on the firewall. You've got a vacuum leak, one of the two contollers is bad, fuel pressure regulator is bad, or the throttle position sensor is bad or out of adjustment. You need a real service manual, Haynes or Chiltons aren't going to help you here.

As allready stated, the idle speed is controlled by the ECM Computer.....you dont adjust it manually. Does this car have AC in it or not?

This car does not have AC in it. Although there is a spot where the button used to be, but none of the wires are connected to an air conditioning unit.

As others have stated you more than likely have a simple vacuum leak. Check the diagram under you hood and make sure all your vacuum hoses are connected and tight. It they are, than your isc valve may be shot. This is a rather comon problem. Its the first part I grab when a new metro makes it to the salvage yard. The part follow your diagram and vacuum lines on the back side of the TB and you will find it. Its kind of blue green in color with two hoses one on top of the other. Take the one that goes to the TB off and plug it with the car idling. Does your idle go down to normal? If so your valve is stuck slightly open, and you might need a new valve.

Your car actually has TWO idle speed scews. There is one that goes up and down and this one is caped at the factory and you do not want to mess with it. The other one goes into the TB (left and right) and has a black cap on it. This one is adjustable, but only after you make dang well sure that you don't have a vacuum issue. It srews in to decrease idle and out to increase. If you scew it all the way in, and you idle is still high, you are getting air into the TB from somewhere else... If the that goes up and down is uncapped, someone may have messed with it.

Also i believe if your timing is somehow off, and it's set too high, that would also raise your idle speed. If you get a chance, make sure your engine is set at the correct timing specs, per the diagram under the hood of your car.
