recharge A/C

Where do I recharge the A/C. I've got the recharge stuff, i know how to use it, but there are 2 possible places to put the stuff in. One is right on the compressor, the other is just in front of the compressor, more towards the front of the truck. It's a 97 4.3 sonoma. Thanks.

1997 uses R134a refrigerant and the fittings are different sizes so you can't hook them up wrong. Don't forget to add oil. The system must be evacuated to 29.4" for a minimum of one hour. Add refrigerant to the low side only.

Do you have the proper AC gauges with the low and high side gauges?
Or just the one hose one stop and go recharge death kits from walmart with the stop leak and any oil stuff?

If you have the low and high side gauges post back pressure with compressor runnng at idle and at 2K rpm.

I've got one of the death kits from autozone. Should I return it and get the one with the gauges and everything?

I would return it.
The death kits contain stop leak and what ever oil additive that can kill your AC.
You can not check or recharge AC safely without watching and reading the high and low side gauges.
AC high side pressure can reach 450-500 lbs of pressure.
If pressure goes to high it can blow your hand or head off or put eye ball.


Get a AC gauge set and check the low and high side pressure with compressor running at idle and at 2K rpm and post back your pressure readings.
And Some one will help you on what way to go from there.
Also ACkits.com has a good ac forum that has a lot of good info.
