'99 malibu gas pedal problem

A couple days ago I had a friend install subs and a new head unit in my car, when he was finished and I was driving home..I noticed my gas pedal had dropped like an inch and a half...it makes it hard to accellerate like I'd like to..I have to literally "put the pedal to the metal" I'll have my gas pedal floored and only be accellerating gradually to like 60.. my car used to get up now...it drags its ass. Any suggestions?

Re: '99 malibu gas pedal problem

It is not near the gas pedal at all - it is under the hood. Where you need to look is near the right side of the engine (looking at it from the front of the car) and you will see where the air filter connects to the intake manifold. The black plastic connecter leads to the engine. What you can do is have someone sit in the car and press the gas pedal when the car is running and you'll see where the linkage connects to the throttle body plate. What most likely happened is the linkage got twisted around the connector.

Re: '99 malibu gas pedal problem

Hey thanks for that..I got the problem fixed temporarily..and I did it myself! (so proud) I'm going to have to get the whole throttle cable replaced, might as well right? there is a piece missing on thing that connects the throttle cable to a metal bar thats why the pedal was dropped. Anyway, thanks for the advice
