brakes problem

87 lebaron 2.5.. brake pedal goes to the floor.. when you push the pedal you can hear like a air leak.. just happened all at once.. think it might be the booster.. does have a little bit of stop to it when the brake pedal is touching the floor

Re: brakes problem

Sounds like either you have a leak(check all four wheels) or the master brake cylinder went bad.

Re: brakes problem

the plastic thingie connected to the booster... one way check valve that can be tested easily...

there's another quick test to see if the brake's booster is "airtight" but gotta run.

local library should have a car repair manual on this vehicle by now...

wait, www.autozone.com has a free repair guide online for your vehicle...

GL!

Re: brakes problem

If your pedal is going to the floor, the problem is NOT to power booster. The problem is either bad internal seals within the master cylinder or an external leak in the hydraulic lines or wheel cylinders. Naturally, anytime the brake pedal travels as much as your's does, the vacuum system in the booster will make some type of vacuum noise, when the engine is running. Also, check your brake fluid level in the master and top off, especially if it is low.

Re: brakes problem

yes we checked it again today and it does have a small leak.. back by the back passenger tire where the metal line screws into the rubber line it is leaking right there, but it is leaking on the meatal line side of the connector, might have a pin hole somewhere by the flange

Re: brakes problem

Rusted out metal line then? Replace the whole line.
