Re: k&n filter

If there's a gasket there, it should be on. Usually these are on so that you don't suck in dirt. If it's direct replacement for the regular OEM one the airbox will definately not seal properly as I had my filter out to do some testing on my Sport Trac recently and notice that the filter seal is actually the airbox seal.

If you still have the old filter, you might be able to use it on your K&N since it should be the same size......just a thought.

Re: k&n filter

That's pretty nice of K&N.

FYI, the K&N won't flow "lots more air," in fact, you probably won't notice a difference in performance. Really the only time a K&N is beneficial from a performance standpoint is at high RPMs, and even then, it's probably negligible.

That being said, I've used K&N in just about every vehicle I've had since they are reuseable. Just be careful when cleaning that you don't over-oil the filter. Excess oil will coat the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and cause performance issues and decreased fuel economy.

Re: k&n filter

The filter should come pre-oiled. However, if you ever decide to clean it, you will want to pick up a K&N filter recharge kit. The kit contains the cleaning spray and oil, as well as instructions on cleaning, drying, and oiling.
