95 Grnd Cherokee Shifting Problems

My Jeep Starts Out In Third Gear And Stays There Most Everytime I Drive It--the O/d Light Will Stay On While It Is In This Mode. I Can Manually Shift It And I Have 1st, No 2nd(acts Like Neutral) And Than 3rd & No O/d.... Once In Awhile It Will Start Out In 1st Like It Is Supposed To, No 2nd, But 3rd And O/d Works--and The O/d Button Works. Code 55 Comes Up On O/d Light(no Codes), Is There A Solinoid Or Something Hanging Up For The O/d??. As For 2nd Gear Not Working, Is There Any Adjustment? Or Do I Need To Have Transmission Overhauled? It Has Been Doing It For The Past 2 Years--hasn't Got Any Worse, No Better.i Would Appreciate Any Input On This Problem
