U1040 Code

Hi...

Just had my 3rd front wheel hub assy replaced since I've owned this car, and the 1st one done out of warranty. I took it to my local Goodyear shop since they give discounts to local business employees and wanted to save some $$.

Once the job was done, all the lights were off on the dash(ABS, LOW TRAC, SVS), but the SES light was still on and the mech said the computer kept spitting out a U1040 code, which from what I've found on the 'net is "Loss of Class 2 Communication With ABS".

He said they couldn't trace the problem down, and said I might have to go to the dealer after all.

My ? is since the hub/speed sensor was replaced, could it simply be a wire they missed or something simple, or will this lead to more $$ and I would have been better off letting a dealer do the whole job the first time?

Before taking it to the dealer check the electrical connector to the EBTCM module located at the ABS modulator/pump assembly. In a bad spot. Located on the subframe driver's side. You may need a trip to the dealer for more advanced diagnostics using a GM Tech II scan tool.

Also it wouldnt hurt to double check the plug ins for the wheel hubs, at the wheel.
They get dirty/loose/broke and even breaks in the wires.

Thanks for the advice, works been a bear this week will follow the tips this weekend.

However, yesterday as I was taking my daughter to daycare the SES light magically went out. "Great" I thought, the issue cleared up. All the driving I did yesterday the light stayed off. Today however, as I was taking daughter to daycare the light came back on. So much for good luck!!

Am I correct in assuming the scans that AutoZone will do for free won't help in this issue?
