350 engine will not run properly

I have a 1946 ford sedan, with late model chevrolet front clip and 350 engine that is stock, it has edelbrock performer manifold with edelbrock 600 cfm carb. after a complete tuneup and rebuild of carb, and new hei distributor the car idles smoothly and runs great until it shifts into drive and then falls on its face as if it is getting to much fuel. the fuel pump is manual and i have rebuilt the carb, i feel as if i have done everything except replace the manual fuel pump which is only about 6 months old. can someone please help, i am running out of ideas

If it's overfueling, check the needle valve in the carb, and install a pressure regulator in the line between the pump and carb. Set the regulator to about 3PSI.

Re: 350 engine will not run properly

ok silicon212, just finished putting back together the carb and feel that the needle valve problem you suggested is going to be the answer, will know here shortly after test drive, and i will let you know if the result is positive thanks
