Hi,
While driving my Intrigue at highway speed after it had been running for approx. 5 minutes, I noticed a subtle headlight flicker for a few seconds followed by illumination of the "service engine soon" light. The headlight flicker only lasted a few seconds and disappeared, but the SES light remains on after driving ~65miles. The car is running fine. I had the code read at Autozone as P0410 - secondary air injection fault. The 50A air pump fuse is fine/not blown. I checked to make sure that the air pump relay is not stuck "closed", but I have not checked to make sure the relay is closing when energized. I have never heard any noise from the air pump. Any ideas on the best way to troubleshoot this? Thanks. 2000 Intrigue GLS; 3.5L; 47000 mi. |

Re: 2000 GLS - troubleshooting P0410 code (service engine soon light)
Thanks. I found some useful info on previous threads. I determined that the air pump is working but found a small crack (leak) in the hose that is attached to the air pump outlet. The dealer does not sell this section of hose separately, but instead sells the hose/valve/air cleaner/etc. together. Rather than replace all of this, I fixed the leak (temporarily) by taping the small crack in the hose - I can no longer feel any air escaping from the crack in the hose. Since I do not have an OBDII scanner, I reset the SEL by pulling fuse 22 (ECM) for ~20mins.
The SEL is out and has not come back on after a few drvies; only one of the drives was from a cold start though and thus the air pump has only come on once since resetting the SEL. |

Re: 2000 GLS - troubleshooting P0410 code (service engine soon light)
For all the trouble i have had with my cars and all my friends/family's cars i finally baught an OBD2 scanner. 150 bucks, 50% off, i have never regreted it. If your a DIY kinda person OBD2 scanner is a must.
