Question z71 question

I have a 99 GMC Z71...Is the front driveshaft suppose to turn all the time even when the transfer case is in 2wd?

My front axle disengages correctly and i know the axles going to the wheels(with the cv joints), are supposed to turn all the time.

I put in a new selector switch, because my 4wd service light was coming on...but the front driveshaft still turns all the time.

please let me know if that's the way it was designed, if not any suggestions on the problem?

thx
jeff

Cool Z71

I have a 2002 1500 Z-71 and mine does the same thing. From other posts on this site, this appears normal for trucks with the auto-trac transfer case. Other than a little less mileage and a little more wear I don't see any disadvantage.
