93 escort engine revs while trying to accelerate

93 escort 1.9L MT hatchback will be slow to accelerate from the stop position. If to much pressure is applied to the accelerator the engine will just rev up as if I am in neutral. This condition happens in all 5 gears. thank you for your help.

sounds like clutch is slipping how old is it?maybe time for replacement.if you apply E brake & try to start off(move)does it stall or stay running for a little bit?

Any chance this is a manual transmission? Sounds like a slipping clutch.
If an automatic, check your fluid level... have it flushed and refilled if it has been a long time.
