Coupe Seat Broken Help!!!

I have a bmw 323i 1996 E36.

Last night when a person in the back tried getting out from the passenger side but they could not.

The leaver that pulls up for the seat to move forward so the passenger can get out is not working.

Does anyone know how I can open the back rest for the front seat?

I want to see what is stopping it from opening the way it should.
