Need some help

ok, the Civic i bought is in need of some help...i need to know how to remove the whole ignition from the steering column and the door locks

whe i bought the car the ignition was screwed...could start the car with basically anything...and he gave me two keys, which neither fit the door locks...well found a car to buy parts off and i need these 3 things by saturday...so if someone knows how to remove these parts or has a manual and can scan in the pager i'll be grateful

Re: Need some help

to get the ignition housing off the car you need to cut slots into the screws since they dont have them on there and use a flathead to turn them out. or you can use a really sharp chissel but I've found cutting slots to work the best.

for the door locks I dont know, ive never done one on a honda.

Page 532-533 (16-30, 16-31) for the ignition (not great pics).

Re: Need some help

Get a #1 Phillips screwdriver, or a scratch Awl(something with a sharp point you can hit with a hammer). Hit it a few times on the headless bolt holding the ignition switch in to get you a nice notch to work with. You want to try to make this notch towards the edge of the bolt, it makes it much easier. Once you have your notch, start tapping it at an angle to loosen it up. When you get one broken loose, do the other side. When both are broken loose, continue to remove them the rest of the way. Now that you have the bolts out, cut some slots in the top of them for easy installation.

If you can cut slots in the top with the ignition still in, go for that. Sometimes that option is hard to do too. As for the door locks, there is usually just a little clip holding them in. They are pretty easy to remove once you get behind the door panel.

Re: Need some help

door lock should be held in place with a clip but make sure u re-key them first.. just pull cylinder apart and pay atention to the tumblers each one has a spring. take ur key and put it in and look at which tumblers stick out. then rearrange the tumblers the best u can then file the rest off and oil up and close up save urself 40$..
