2000 Grand Cherokee - ENGINE LIGHT UP !

Help!!! recently the check engine light lits so I started changing all the spark plugs, ignition coil and change oil & filter but the light persists. When I just switch on the ignition, the engine light & the check gauges are on while the rest of the lights went off. I try to check all gauges and it seems that only the battery charger gauge is not moving. Experts, please advise should I replace the charger gauge or just leave it as is?????
Thanks in advance.

Re: 2000 Grand Cherokee - ENGINE LIGHT UP !

Does the check gages light stay on when to engine is running? I dunno if it is just 96-98's but does the key thing work on 00's? the engine light means emissions so try to get it scanned. My bet is O2 sensor.

Re: 2000 Grand Cherokee - ENGINE LIGHT UP !

When the CEL ( check engine light) stay's on it is because the computer has found an error somwhere in the system it could even be the transmission or something else. Take it to a local shop or even Autozone or something and have them hook it up to an OBD scanner to find out why the light is on. DO NOT just start swapping out parts.

Re: 2000 Grand Cherokee - ENGINE LIGHT UP !

Yes the key on off thing does work for the WJ models, the only one it does not work on is 1998 models.

turn the Key ON, OFF, ON, OFF, ON - the code will appear in the odometer field, P followed by 4 numbers - P????, (digital odometer equipped vehicles). On analog odometers you will have to count the CHECK ENGINE light flashes.
